There will be three possible types of kiln sales:

1. Historical Society Kiln Sales

Designed for the benefit of potters and the Crawford County Pottery Museum

§         Potters will set up (tents, tables, etc.) at the kiln site where they can sell their wares not fired in the kiln.

§         Vendor fees will be $50 for potters who do not help with firing the kiln and $40 for potters who help with the firing.

§         Kiln sale buyers will pay a 10 percent buyer's premium to the Historical Society.

§         Potters will keep all proceeds from the kiln sale.

§         All pottery fired will be included in the sale; none to be put back.

2. Historical Society & Partners Fundraiser Sales

Designed for the benefit of the society and other nonprofit organizations

Two or more local partner 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations (may be the society and one other or two other organizations working together), with the approval of landowner Bryant Pyles, will plan and benefit from vendor sales and will jointly provide family appropriate entertainment.

§         The historical society and the partner organizations can each secure the donation of up to 10 pieces from potters and retain all proceeds from the sale of those pieces.

§         Where donations are not secured, receipts will be divided as follows: 60 percent to the potter and 25 percent to the historical society and 15 percent to the partner sponsor.

§         A 10 percent buyers' premium will be equally split between the society and the partner.

§         All pottery fired will be included in the sale; none to be put back.

3. Historical Society Kiln Sale in conjunction with other nonprofit event

Designed to benefit the society and enhance other events

Local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, with the approval of landowner Bryant Pyles, will plan and benefit from vendor sales and will provide family appropriate entertainment.

§         Potters' kiln fees will be $50 for those who do not help with firing the kiln and $40 for those who do.

§         Kiln sale buyers will pay a 10 percent buyer's premium to the Historical Society.

§         Potters will keep all proceeds from the kiln sale.

§         All pottery fired will be included in the sale; none to be put back.

Partner sponsor:

1. is responsible for their own city/county event permits.

2. is responsible for their own food permit(s).

3. is jointly responsible for clean-up of the property, including parking and vendor area, before and after the event (Historical Society is also responsible and Bryant Pyles is often able to mow the property; but ultimate responsibility will lie with CCHS and the partner sponsor).

4. is responsible for any damage to Bryant Pyles' property.

5. agrees to accept the ruling of CCHS as to whether insurance is necessary and agrees to pay one-half the cost of the policy if necessary.

CCHS will assist with publicity, using collector and media contacts, and will participate in advertising costs.

The two organizations will work together on logistics for the sale, but will generally follow these guidelines:

  1. Customers will be allowed on the field at 8 a.m. They will be met at the field entrance and given a number as they park.
  2. Customers will have the chance to view pottery from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  3. Customers will be allowed to select one piece when their number is called. That piece will be tagged with their number and moved to the check-out table.
  4. When all numbers have been called, a new round of selections will begin, and rounds will continue until all pottery is sold. If a fifth round is necessary, it will begin with numbers given out during round four (so even late-comers will be able to buy a nice piece).

§         No children under the age of 12 will be allowed in the kiln area during the firing and cooling period.

§         Crawford County Historical Society will not be responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged pottery

Representatives from both organizations will work the sale, collect money and account for receipts. Potters and the partner organizations will be paid any money due by CCHS. (Buyers' checks will be made to Crawford County Historical Society Old Courthouse Fund).
