Old Courthouse Restoration Project

The society is still working on a community-wide coalition of groups and individuals interested in saving the historic courthouse in Knoxville.  To find out more, call president Elaine Westberry at 478-836-3029.

"The Crawford County Historical Society is in the process of restoring our 1851 Old Courthouse, one of the earlier courthouses in the state still standing, and converting it into a museum devoted to telling the story of what is unique about our county. Our mission is to preserve, interpret and promote the historical, cultural and natural heritage of Crawford County, GA, and to promote economic development through historic preservation.

Our signature collection will showcase our rich Crawford County Pottery tradition. Other educational opportunities eventually offered by the Historic Crawford County Courthouse Museum will include a "Walk in the Footsteps of Those Who Came Before Us" exhibit which includes the contributions of our diverse population as well as other displays and activities which will enable visitors to learn from the past, understand the present, and shape the future.

Believing that a museum should be more than just a repository of items, we intend to be an active participant in community affairs by providing a Heritage Education Program and other community outreach services for the citizens of Crawford County.
